Leather Glue How to glue leather to leather:
There are a couple of tricks in using Mister Glue. First of all it is a cyanoacrylate - that is the same base as super glue or krazy glue but if you try to super glue leather it will go brittle and crack after a while. This is due to the solvents which have been distilled out of Mister Glue making much stronger than super glue. It also dries flexible - it will not go brittle.
Glue Porous Leather:
If you are going to repair leather shoes or do a leather boot repair most of the time the leather is dense enough that it is not too porous. With more porous leathers, when they are dry or if you are trying to glue the 'rough' side you will need to prime it a bit so that the glue won't all soak in. Water will work but use a fine mist spray as you do not want the leather wet. Just enough so that the glue will remain on or at the surface. If you feel that you have applied too much and the leather is wet, let it sit a dry some before you apply the glue. It should not feel wet to the touch.
If you are bonding leather to wood as in a leather boot repair on a heel then apply the glue to the least porous side.
Once the surface is primed apply Mister Glue to one side only. Apply only enough so that it will squeeze evenly over the surface with minimal coming out. You will need a lot less than you think because you want as tight a fit as possible. The tighter the fit the stronger the bond. This is not like Shoo Goo - it will not fill gaps. Hold the two surfaces together for a few seconds to set then set aside and let fully cure.
You are bound to get some squeezing out and this glue is very runny - when you are repairing leather shoes hold them right side up so the glue doesn't run over the top part of the shoe. Leave any that squeezes out and scrape off when it dries up a bit. Otherwise you will smear it and then it will be extremely difficult to clean up.
Make sure that you have something underneath that the glue can drip onto without ruining. Use an old piece of wood or cardboard - not fabric or paper. Mister Glue will seep right through these last two.
