White Glue Yellow Glue
White Glue is also called polyvinyl acetate or PVA. It is made of water and polyvinyl acetate. It is a white liquid but dries clear. White glue is used with porous materials such as wood, paper, fabric, crafts and pottery(porous). White glue is not water proof or water resistant. It is inexpensive and has a good shelf life.
White Glue and Yellow Glue
Both can be used as wood glue. With white glue in most wood to wood applications you need to clamp for 30 minutes to an hour. Apply to one side then clamp then allow to fully cure for 18-24 hours. When used in woodworking, the difference between white glue and yellow glue is that yellow glue dries more quickly. White glue has more "open time". So, if you are doing projects that take a bit longer to assemble then use white glue.
Because it is water based, white glue won't do well with oily or dense woods.
White glue is a great household or office glue. Use with children for crafts as it is completely safe. It washes off with mild soap and water.
Tips: White glue cures as the water in it evaporates so ensure that there is decent circulation while curing.
Tricks: see other sections of our website to see how to use sawdust with white or yellow glue for gap filling.
Note: Don't allow your White Glue to freeze. That will make it useless.
